Cleanliness may be next to godliness ... but it isn't godliness. There are always folks who want to help God out by adding their own rules to His laws. In Jesus' day it was the Pharisees and their codes about washing. Hands, cookware, whatever ya got - let's run some water over it! But how much water does it take to cleanse a soul? And by instituting these regulations, didn't the Pharisees put themselves on a collision course with the ultimate Authority?
